HVAC Upgrade + Trees Capital Campaign
What major work are we doing?
HVAC – We have 5 HVAC systems at St George’s to service each part of the building. In the hall and classrooms side the two furnaces and two air conditioning units have reached the end of their lifespan and are needing replacement. In the cafe, foyer, narthex, fireside room and offices we have two working furnaces but no air conditioning. The parish council agreed that adding air conditioning to these spaces will be a great benefit for all of our children, youth, adult and seniors ministries in the increasingly hot Maple Ridge summers. The total cost of these two projects is around $62,000.
Trees – There are 5 trees between the daycare playground and the village housing which are too large for the space and local residents have concerns about the proximity to housing. We have applied for a permit to the City for removal of these trees, and this will then necessitate the planting of more appropriate species. The cost for this project is estimated to be around $8,000. Work will be carried out by a qualified arborist.
When will we do the work?
Ideally as soon as possible! We have been advised that the life-expired furnaces may not last the winter.
What will this cost and how will we pay for it all?
These two projects combined have a price tag of $70,000.
We have been able to secure a matching grant from the Diocese of New Westminster for $35,000. This means that every dollar that is donated will be matched with a dollar from the Diocese! We had a small amount left over from our campaign to pay off the church mortgage a few years ago, which was invested in the Consolidated Trust Fund. This is now worth $5000, so that means we only have $30,000 to raise.
How will we raise $30,000? We invite any member of our church community or friends to donate any amount – either online, or by cash or cheque at the church. It’s important to note that any donations should be an offering above and beyond your regular giving. It would be no good if we have new HVAC systems but can’t pay the Hydro bill to use them!
Remember that there are tax credits available for charitable giving, so if you have paid enough tax, you can receive a tax credit up to around 45% of your donation. If you make a donation before the end of December it will be included in your February tax receipt, and you can apply this to the 2025 tax year. Please do seek tax advice from a professional as everyone’s circumstances are different!
