Hot Sox Collection
Every year in November we collect items of warm clothing for the Mission to Seafarers in Vancouver.
We collect from November 8-29.
Our campaign is commonly know as the “Hot Sox” collection and we aim to fill the large red stocking you’ll see hanging up near the main church entrance. We appreciate donations of warm, woollen work socks, mittens, toques and neck warmers (scarves aren’t helpful as they can become caught in machinery).
Many of you will never have heard of the Mission to Seafarers, but it started in England in the 1830’s with the aim to care for the spiritual and material needs and of sailors, who spend many months at sea, away from their families, and are often ill-prepared for chilly weather in colder regions. Hence our campaign to provide warm clothing for those seafarers visiting Vancouver in winter.
The Rev, Peter Smyth is the chaplain at the harbour front centre and I recommend you to learn more about the work of the Mission to Seafarers by visiting their website.
Thank you, Christine Duamel
